The Exploitation of Wild Flowers and Shrubs of Kangweondo for Sight

Abstract
Studies on the flower color, flowering period, leaf type, fruit color, ornamental days, and environmental factors of wild herbaceous plants and shrubs were carried out by field observations covering major mountains in Kangweondo, and the seed propagation, cutting and transplanting, and growing habit were also studied for the shrubs and herbaceous plants.
The results were obtained as follows:
1. Out of 290 plant species observed for those grown in wild in Kangweondo are; Sanguisorba hakusanensis, Primura loesenerii, Patrinia saniculaefolia, Scabiosa mansenensis, Hanabusaya asiatica, Erythronium japonicum, Lyehnis cognata, Hermerocallis aurantiaca, Pyrola japonica, Sedum kamtschaticum, Chrysanthemum jawadskii var. latilobum, Cypripedium thunbergii, Gentiana triflora, Anemone narcissiflora and Tofieldia nuda, and Echinosophora koreensis, Exochorda serratifolia, Rhododendron fauriei for Yufescens, Acer tschonoskii var. rubripes, Lonicera maackii, Philadelphus schrenckii, Berberis koreana, Rosa koreana, Vaccinum koreanum and Vibrunum carlesii were sampled as shrubs.
2. Sanguisorba hakusanensis, Scabiosa mansenensis, Hanabusaya asiatica, Sedum kamtschaticum Gentiana triflora, Anemone nacissiflora and Echinosophora koreensis etc. grew well even in less fertile lands, whereas fertile and moist lands were favorable for the growth of Primura loesenerii, Erythronium japonicum, Lychnis cognata, Pyrola japonica and Rhododendron fauriei f. rufescens, etc.
3. Primura loesenerii, Erythronium japonicum, Lychnis cognata, Pyrola japonica and Rhododendron fauriei f. rufescens were considered shade tolerant plants, while Sanguisorba hakusanensis, Scabiosa mansenensis, Hanabusaya asiatica, Gentiana triflora and Anemone nacissiflora etc. were found light favoring plants.
4. The germinating rate of Echinosophora koreensis, Rhododendron fauriei f. rufescens and Berberis koreana were 50%, 40%, 84% respectively, while that of Exochorda serratifolia was poor by 7%. Especially the mass propagation of Echinosophora koreensis and Rhododendron fauriei f. rufescens by seeds was possible.
5. The rooting rate of Echinosophora kareensis, Exochorda serratifolia, Thuja koraiensis and Rosa koreana were relatively high, and that of Echinosophora koreensis was good with rhizomes as compared with stems. The rooting rate of Rhododendron fauriei f. rufescens was low.
6. All the wild herbaceous plants and shrubs after transplanting showed healthy growth with favorable environmental adaptation. On the contrary, the growth of Pyrola japonica was bad. All of them were strong for cold hardiness. Therefore they can be cultivated in many places in Korea.
